senators that was presented yesterday. brianne carter has a preview. >> later today in las vegas president barack obama is expected to lay out his vision for immigration reform. the president is expected to push for improved border security, a crackdown on employers hiring undocumented workers, and creating a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. >> we believe this will be the year congress finally gets it done. >> the president's plan comes one day after a bipartisan group of eight senators reached an agreement on a framework to create a pathway to citizenship for 11 million immigrants living in the united states. >> issue of immigration is not a simple one, but i think we have their opportunity to do it right. it would do a tremendous service to our country and its future. >> the president has said immigration reform is a priority for the second term. is expected to speak about 3:00 eastern time in las vegas. brianne carter, abc 7 news.

>> massachusetts senator john cain could move one step closer to becoming the next secretary of state. the senate foreign relations committee will meet this morning to vote on his nomination. at a hearing last week, the committee questioned john kerry about syria, iran, climate change, and other issues. many believe he will easily win senate confirmation. >> day swp day in it two high- profile trials in our area. jury deliberations resume the trial of a former culpeper police officer accused of killing an unarmed woman. daniel harmon-wright testified that he shot patricia cook in self-defense. prosecutors say the deadly shooting was excessive and unnecessary. closing arguments get underway this morning and the trial of john leopold of anne arundel county, accused of using a security detail and a secretary for personal and political reasons. his attorneys don't deny the

evidence, but they insist he never. a judge will decide his guilt or innocence. >> d.c. officials are expected to announce the city has a $400 million surplus. it is due largely to strong revenue collection and an improved economy. d.c. council members want to spend money on homeless services welfare programs, and education. one resident that we spoke with suggested taking all the money and refunding it to the taxpayers. >> that might help the economy. giving the people refund, they will spend the money. that really would keep some people higher and boost business. >> mayor vincent gray is likely to argue most of the money should go into the city's reserve fund. 6:06. countdown to the ravens super bowl niners. just five days. >> the ravens arrived in orleans

>> you are watching abc 7's "good morning washington" with cynne simpson and scott thuman. this is "good morning washington," on your side. >> workers at glenarden industrial center are on alert after murder on monday. police found a man's body at the auto body shop. the shop owner was shot and killed. investigators don't have any suspects at this time or the motives. some people wonder how someone was shot in a busy complex and no one heard a thing. d.c. police are asking for help in finding a person of interest in a sexual assault case. investigators believe the man seen in this surveillance video know something about the january 20 attack that happened in the early morning hours in the 1400

block of florida avenue nw. if you recognize this man, please call d.c. police. >> it is 6:15 right now. the pentagon says that an air force fighter jet disappeared over the adriatic sea off the coast of italy during. a training during they launched a search on monday after the airforce lost contact with the plane. at this point, no immediate word from the pentagon on whether the jet crashed. it appears the f-16 was not carrying weapons. new details emerging about the deadly nightclub fire in brazil. investigators combing the scene say the insulation was covered -- which cover the ceiling was made of a highly combustible foam was easily ignited by the band's pyrotechnics. there were no sprinklers or fire extinguishers and just one exit. many say the club was a deathtrap. 231 people died and many of them from smoke inhalation. the first set of victims have

the suspected gunman was taken into custody. veterans may soon have more actions for mental health-care -- more at options. this will help military members having trouble getting timely mental health care from veterans' hospitals and clinics. critics say the proposal could undercut the va hospital which provides quality care. a member of the fa flying group will perform a feat today. >> they will be 100 feet in their air in sarasota. the man says the city gave him permission to perform the stand without -- stunt without a harness. we hope there will not be much wind. >> i wonder what kind of waiver you have to sign.

frederick, 48, along with baltimore, hagerstown, and westminster, in the upper 40's. a big temperatures spread outside today. tomorrow i think we will all make it to 60 degrees. depending on how much sunshine, we could make 70 degrees on wednesday. otherwise fairly cloudy with late-day and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. for the drive home tomorrow that is. looks like we will have some heavy rain. this computer model indicates parts of montgomery county could see 1.5 inches of rain. around the district and prince george's county, close to an inch. fairfax county could see over an inch. overall we can expect between 1 inch and 2 inches tomorrow from the thunderstorms. even some gusty wind the next couple days and possibly an isolated severe storm late tomorrow. much colder friday through the weekend with highs in the 30's and a few snow flurries. unfortunately, no stimulation. let's go to jamee for the commute.
